The Douglas County Board of Education put off a vote on its proposed fiscal year 2014 budget Monday night in hopes of getting more details on the county’s tax digest and information on state funding.
The board voted unanimously to delay a vote on the proposed $203 million budget until the June 17 meeting. DCSS CFO Greg Denney recommended the delay hoping to have the most accurate numbers possible. The budget currently has a shortfall of $5.45 million, which will require the system to dip into its reserve fund.
The vote came after a public hearing where no one from the public spoke or had questions for the board of school officials.
The board also approved a new contract for Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz.
