Senator Jesse Stone recognized by DAAG – MySwainsboroNews.com: Community

On May 7, 2013, the District Attorneys’ Association of Georgia (DAAG) recognized Senator Jesse Stone for his leadership and hard work during the 2013 Session of the Georgia General Assembly. Stone served as the Chairman of the Non-Civil Judiciary Committee and was instrumental in supporting the Adult Criminal Justice Reform Bill, House Bill 349, as well as the Juvenile Justice Reform Bill, House Bill 242, throughout the committee process in the Senate.

“Senator Stone has taken the helm of a very difficult and complex ship being that all matters related to the criminal justice system in Georgia must pass through the Senate Non- Civil Judiciary Committee,” says Chuck Spahos, Executive Director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia. “He has also taken on several important issues for law enforcement and prosecutors, personally seeing that they are adequately vetted, that all parties are heard, and that the bills become laws.”

Stone carried House Bill 55 through the Senate, which dealt with a very technical issue involving wiretapping in Georgia. House Bill 55 was also necessary for law enforcement to get back in the business of investigating and prosecuting drug cartel operations in Georgia. The bill passed both legislative chambers within seven weeks of the Georgia Supreme Court decision that required the fix that the bill provided.

Additionally, Stone authored and carried Senate Bill 86 which was signed into law by Governor Nathan Deal on the same day that Stone received recognition from the DAAG. Senate Bill 86 allows law enforcement to arrest offenders that disregard an order of the court following an arrest for domestic violence against their spouse or intimate partner.
