Bibb County commissioners made a slight dent into a potential $13 million budget deficit in fiscal 2014, cutting departmental proposed budgets by roughly $500,000 during Thursday’s budget hearings.
Bibb County IT Director Grant Faulkner proposed the biggest round of cuts for the day — about $320,000 from his budget — while other cuts were made from the budgets of the Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s Office and the Bibb County Board of Elections.
But while the cuts are a step in the right direction, many of the department representatives who made their presentations Thursday emphasized certain staffing needs that will be discussed during Wednesday’s upcoming hearings.
For example, Bibb County Solicitor-General Rebecca Grist noted that her staff had a backlog of 842 DUI cases when she came into office last year.
