Four of the six candidates for mayor of Macon-Bibb County’s new consolidated government lined up to answer questions Thursday night at the Douglass Theatre, a session sponsored by the “Up Next with …” interview show on government-access Channel 14.
Former Bibb County Commission Chairman Charlie Bishop, businessman David Cousino, former Macon Mayor C. Jack Ellis and current Mayor Robert Reichert took questions from co-hosts Andre “A.J. the DJ” Jones and community activist Al Tillman.
Bishop, Ellis and Reichert, perched on stools and facing a row of video cameras, all touted their experience, while Cousino painted himself as differing from “the same old thing.”
The first countywide mayor and nine new commissioners are scheduled to be chosen in a nonpartisan election July 16. They will take office in January 2014, and current city and county governments will dissolve.
