The control tower at Middle Georgia Regional Airport, expected to close in June due to federal budget cuts, will stay open at least until Sept. 30, the FAA announced Friday afternoon.
Macon’s tower and those at 148 other airports nationwide were first threatened with closure in mid-April due to across-the-board cuts, triggered by the inability of the federal government to reach a budget-cutting deal. In early April the FAA announced an extension until June 15.
