Walker County will back loans for struggling hospital – : News

Walker County will likely go it alone in backing loans for Hutcheson Medical Center in Fort Oglethorpe.

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, Walker County commissioner Bebe Heiskell told the hospital the county would back loans as needed on a “case by case basis.”

Heiskell had announced in late November that the county would back a $2 million loan, but only if either Catoosa County or Dade County helped.

Catoosa County commissioners on Tuesday, Dec. 3, decided they would not extend a line of credit to the financially struggling hospital, which owes more than $60 million.

Dade County commissioners will meet Thursday, Dec. 12, to decide; however observers say it is unlikely Dade will offer a financial hand.
