The Marietta Daily Journal – Transportation is a priority for Cobb residents

MARIETTA — A recently released survey found Cobb County residents believe transportation is the biggest issue facing metro Atlanta, but Commissioner Bob Ott doesn’t believe the results necessarily mean the county should expand its mass transit program.

The result of the survey, conducted on behalf of the Atlanta Regional Commission, represents a change compared to a similar survey the ARC conducted last year, which saw the economy chosen as the biggest problem the area faces.

Those surveyed were asked to choose the biggest issue facing residents in the metro area from among eight possible answers: transportation, race relations, the economy, crime, public health, public education, human services for people in need and taxes. The respondents could also choose “don’t know” or “other.”

Among 708 respondents who said they lived in Cobb County, 25 percent said transportation was the most important issue, with 22 percent choosing the economy and 14 percent saying public education. The margin of error on the county level is 5 percentage points.
