nemployment during June as more seasonal workers flooded into the job market to compete for work.
The county’s unemployment rate shot up from 7.5 percent in May to 8.0 percent in June, the highest in more than six months, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.
But the 8.0 percent jobless rate is still lower than when it stood at 8.6 percent in June 2012.
And it’s that year-ago comparison that should be given the most credibility, said Sam Hall, communications director for the Georgia Department of Labor.
“You get a more accurate reading on the job market if you look to the previous year for your comparison,” Hall said.
