Speaker David Ralston Elected SLC Chairman
Georgia Speaker of the House David Ralston (R-Blue Ridge) was unanimously elected Chairman of the Southern Legislative Conference (SLC) at the organization’s 68th annual meeting held in Little Rock, Arkansas.
“This is not only an incredible honor for me, but also for the members of the Georgia General Assembly,” said House Speaker David Ralston. “It demonstrates that our colleagues from surrounding states recognize that we take our legislative responsibilities seriously in Georgia.”
As SLC chair, Speaker Ralston will preside over the Conference and guide its major policy deliberations. Senate President Robert Stivers of Kentucky and Speaker Philip Gunn of Mississippi were elected chair elect and vice chair, respectively. Also, Speaker Ralston will play a key role in welcoming the 69th SLC Annual Meeting in Savannah, Georgia, on July 18-22, 2015.
The SLC provides a platform for legislators from across the southeast to speak with one voice on issues that affect the entire region and for legislators from different states to examine issues and share their experiences with one another.
Founded in 1947, the Southern Legislative Conference is the largest of four regional legislative groups operating under the Council of State Governments. The 15 member states are Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee,Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
