Two Douglasville city councilmen up for reelection this year will apparently have to fight to keep their seats after two challengers have declared their intentions to run.
Former Douglasville Police Detective Jay Smith and local attorney Mike Miller have formally filed a Declaration of Intent to enter the city council race through the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission.
Smith filed his DOI on Aug. 5 for the Ward 1 seat currently held by Mayor Pro Tem Larry Yockey. Miller, who is also a former Douglas County School Board member and state representative candidate, filed his DOI on Thursday for the Ward 2 (Post 1) seat currently held by Councilman Dennis McLain.
The Douglas County Tea Party sent out an email newsletter Friday that indicated they will be endorsing Miller. According to the newsletter, he approached the party’s board members several weeks ago and asked for their support.
