Savannah-Chatham police bring Christmas cheer to families in need | savannahnow.com

Christmas this year for the Allen family of Savannah appeared bleak until hope arrived Monday in the form of Savannah-Chatham police officers.

Carmellia Allen, a single mother, stood speechless in the middle of the living room of her 42nd Street home as about a dozen police personnel from the department’s Central Precinct arrived with gifts, gift cards, furniture and even a Christmas tree with lights.

Her children, Tyrese, 14, and Javonda, 10, were equally in awe.

“I had already told my kids we aren’t going to have Christmas because I don’t have any money and I’m not working,” Carmellia said as she looked at all the gifts.
