RN-T.com – UPDATE Shaw Industries announces carpet tile factory at Adairsville site expects to employ 300 500 workers

Members of the Adairsville City Council pose with Shaw executives outside the historic depot in Adairsville after Shaw announced plans for a 600,000-square-foot plant in Adairsville. The carpet tile plant will ultimately employ as many as 500 people.

The Shaw Industries Group unveiled plans to build a 600,000-square-foot carpet tile plant along Ga. 140 in Adairsville.

The plant will be located on a 117-acre tract north of Ga. 140 near its intersection with Hall Station Road. The Shaw investment is estimated at $85 million. The Development Authority of Bartow County will issue bonds of at least $85 million to finance the project.

Shaw has agreed to pay $35,000 an acre for the property. That adds up to $4,116,000. The Reliant Real Estate Partners LLC owns the land. Melinda Lemmon, executive director of the Cartersville-Bartow County Economic Development office, praised Reliant’s assistance with the due-diligence required to market the site as if it were a Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development location.

“We are delighted to have landed this opportunity in our home state,” said Chuck Dobbins, director of corporate assets for Shaw.

“We’ve had too many times in the past several years where our industry has been dinged so hard by the housing downturn. (We) have spent too much of our time talking about where capacity needed to be taken out… so this is so exciting for our company,” he told a crowd gathered for the announcement in the historic Adairsville Depot.
