RN-T.com – Sheriff s office providing way to get rid of unused prescription drugs

In the past, there wasn’t a good alternative for people to get rid of old prescription drugs, said Jerry Duke of the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

But now there is one, located in the bonding lobby of the Sheriff’s Office at 2526 New Calhoun Highway.

The white drug drop box that was put up about six weeks ago was given to the Sheriff’s Office by the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, through a grant from Endo Pharmaceuticals and the National Rx Drug Drop Box program. There was no cost to the agency.

It gives people a safe way to get rid of old prescription drugs. “You don’t want to do anything like flush them,” Duke said. “It causes a host of problems, not the least of them being the rivers and waters could be contaminated.”
