For Shawn Treglown of Rome, it’s all about hitting a home run.

“It makes me so happy and excited,” said the 25-year-old at the opening game Saturday for Rome-Floyd Parks and Recreation Authority’s fall challenger baseball — “Miracle Ball” — at Miracle Field at State Mutual Stadium.

“Watch this,” he added as he adjusted his gloves and stepped up to the plate.

And with a crack of the bat, the ball popped over the outfield fence and Shawn, who was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, ran home as the crowd cheered.

While home runs help to bring smiles, the true joy comes from being part of the community, said Treglown’s mother, Elaine Treglown.
