During the eighth annual River Revelry event, sponsored by the Coosa River Basin Initiative, hundreds of locals attended the anticipated event Saturday to celebrate aquatic biodiversity.
Amidst excited and happily arriving attendees, Joe Cook, director of CRBI said it was fun getting locals to come to the riverside at Heritage Park to celebrate the rivers.
Cook said nearly 400 people attended the event and helped raised more than $20,000.
“It’s just a lot of fun,” Cook said. “It’s a shout out for the moccasin shells and the rock snails. … There’s 30 endemic aquatic species in the Coosa Basin making it the most biologically diverse river basin in North America.”
As many came out to celebrate the cause, Cook said proceeds from the event would go to fund educational programs by CRBI as well as river maintenance and check ups.
