No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015. H.R. 7 prohibits tax credits and subsidies under ObamaCare from being used to purchase health plans that cover abortion except in cases related to rape, incest, or preserving the life of the mother.  The bill also codifies the long standing Hyde Amendment and states that no funds authorized or appropriated shall be used for abortions. Additionally, H.R. 7 requires health plans to disclose to enrollees at the time of enrollment in the plan the extent of abortion coverage and abortion premium surcharges. Below is Congressman Westmoreland’s statement.

“It is disgraceful that any American who religiously or morally disagrees with abortion should be forced to pay for one,”stated Westmoreland. “As a staunch pro-lifer, I am proud to support H.R. 7 to prevent any taxpayer dollars from being used to end an innocent child’s life. I will do everything I can to prevent federal dollars or subsidies from being manipulated into paying for an abortion that I adamantly oppose. I believe that all life is sacred, and we must do all we can to protect the voice of the unborn.”

H.R. 7, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015 is supported by some of the nation’s top pro-life groups, including the National Right to Life Committee, Family Research Council, Eagle Forum, and Concerned Women for America. The bill will now head to the Senate where Congressman Westmoreland hopes it will be quickly brought to a vote.
