ATLANTA – A campaign season loan made to Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is raising a number of questions.

To some, the loan by a longtime girlfriend of Reed made during his first bid to be mayor raises questions of ethics. The mayor and his now former girlfriend say it was purely personal and no one’s business.

Joint Statement from Mayor Kasim Reed and Joy Rohadfox regarding loan made during his 2009 Mayoral Campaign

Dale Russell’s misleading report contains accusations that are false and baseless. The facts are clear: Joy Rohadfox and her firm received no special treatment from the Reed Administration.

It is undisputed that Kasim Reed had nothing to do with the city procurement and award she received before he was ever elected Mayor of Atlanta. Ms. Rohadfox has been the President of a successful business for more than a decade. The only thing Ms. Rohadfox did wrong was refuse to participate in Mr. Russell’s efforts to discredit Mr. Reed.

She is a partner in a joint venture whose contract was renewed just as virtually every contract of this type is renewed. There is absolutely no evidence of impropriety or favoritism of any kind concerning the renewal of this joint venture agreement.

He provided legal services before he was elected mayor to a woman he had dated for some time. After the election, they mutually agreed that Reed would return all monies paid to him by Ms. Rohadfox so that they would have no further financial involvement in order to avoid even the appearance of a business conflict.
