Pooler officials this week signed off on a contract with Savannah-based Elkins Constructors to build a new city hall next door to the existing structure on U.S. 80.
Their hope is the new $15 million complex will stir private development in Pooler’s downtown, which has been passed over by the boom experienced in areas such as Godley Station along Pooler Parkway.
The council postponed the vote on the contract earlier this month to give themselves more time to review the document. City Manager Robbie Byrd said at the council’s meeting Monday that city attorney Steve Scheer is still examining the contract and asked the council to sign off on it contingent upon Scheer’s approval.
