Oil and gas boom creates jobs in Gwinnett – Atlanta Business Chronicle

WIKA Instrument L.P. is adding 250 jobs at its U.S. headquarters in Lawrenceville, Ga., as the company sees demand from the booming oil and gas sector.

WIKA, known for its pressure gauges, thermometers and sensors, is already one of Gwinnett County’s largest manufactures, with more than 700 workers. It could be pushing 1,000 in the next few years if demand keeps its current pace.

WIKA supplies equipment to the oil and gas industry, where its gauges are used in hydraulics and pipelines. A study released earlier this month by IHS predicted industrial production will increase 3.5 percent by the end of this decade because of the shale energy boom. One feature of that boom is hydraulic fracturing, or extracting oil and gas from geologic formations.
