Obama’s Tax Exempt Political Organization Seeks Support for Senate Candidate in Georgia

Organizing for Action (OFA), President Obama’s tax-exempt political organization, is exploring ways to help Georgia Senate candidate Michelle Nunn, according to a report Tuesday in Politico.

do_as_we_say_not_as_we_doPolitico reported that several political operatives and potential donors told the news organization that OFA Executive Director Jon Carson made the pitch to help Nunn in various discussions this spring.

Nunn, who previously has not held elective office, is the daughter of four-term Democratic Senator Sam Nunn. She announced her candidacy late last month.

Politico also reported that OFA Chairman Jim Messina has held discussions with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee about mobilizing Obama supporters in Republican- held districts in races the party hopes will be competitive.

“It’s a dramatic step for the group, founded in January to help promote the president’s agenda,” Politico reported. “OFA says it’s not endorsing specific candidates or participating in ‘electoral politics,’ but by telling donors that its work will directly help Democratic candidates, OFA is jumping over a partisan boundary it previously said it wouldn’t cross.”
