JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – The ban on Fulton County irrigation water meters may be lifted, but there is little incentive to run out and get one.
At an Aug. 13 public meeting in Johns Creek, the Fulton County Department of Water Resources discussed proposed changes in the water conservation rate structure that would include lifting the moratorium on irrigation meters.
The moratorium was imposed in 2007 due to the ongoing drought in Georgia by the state’s Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District, which encompasses 16 counties including the greater Atlanta area. Its function is to regulate water use and set policy.
Irrigation meters measure the amount of water used to water residential and commercial properties. The current bimonthly rate for metered irrigation water is $2.90 per 1,000 gallons for the first 11,340 gallons and $5.80 per thousand gallons above that in a 60-day billing cycle.
