Network snags delay Friday voting in Macon | Elections | Macon.com

Problems at the Macon-Bibb County elections office prompted several prospective voters to give up and leave Friday, the last day of early voting before Tuesday’s runoff.

A worker in the elections office said a networking problem was to blame for voting delays.

Dozens of voters queued up inside and outside the office before noon Friday. Some of those who had been waiting eventually gave up in frustration and left.

The elections office, at 2445 Pio Nono Ave., will be open till 5:30 p.m., but those who are in line at that time will be able to vote.

Early voting turnout has increased day by day at the office. Thursday’s final tally was 1,106, bringing the five-day total — including the tally from Oct. 5 — to 4,754.

Voters are picking the first mayor for the consolidated Macon-Bibb County government as well as four new county commissioners.
