Neighbor Newspapers – Ready for takeoff on renovated runway at county s airport

Pilots can now navigate a new, expanded runway at the Henry County Airport located near Atlanta Motor speedway in Hampton.

Airport Manager Ron Burckhalter hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to introduce the finished portion of the runway expansion project to the public last week.

“We added 1,000 feet in length and widened it by 25 feet,” he said during the event.

The expansion project cost about $3 million, with $2.8 million provided by the Federal Aviation Administration and Georgia Department of Labor and the remainder from Henry County.
