Neighbor Newspapers – Lance Large set to resign from Milton City Council special election to be held

Four Milton City Council seats will be up for election this fall as opposed to three after District 3 Post 2 Councilman Lance Large announced he will be leaving city council before the end of his term.

Large will be stepping down from his position later this year to move to Virginia. He said the move is due to his wife’s job.

“We have really enjoyed living here,” Large said. “It’s going to be hard to find a place as nice as this to live.”

An engineer and independent consultant, Large said he has enjoyed serving on council, his first foray into local politics. He said he will be following the actions of city council members from a distance as they continue to work to develop the city of Milton.

“Since I’ve been on council, collectively we’ve done a lot to improve the city,” he said.

Large is a native of Virginia and will have the opportunity to live closer to his parents, brother, children and first grandchild with the move.

A special election will be held Nov. 5, along with the scheduled municipal election. Large’s term was originally set to end Dec. 31, 2015. The council positions currently held by Karen Thurman, Bill Lusk and Joe Longoria will also be up for election in November in addition to the mayor’s post.

Those interested in running for any of the positions must file for candidacy Aug. 26 through 30 with City Clerk Sudie Gordon at City Hall, 13000 Deerfield Pkwy., Suite 107 A/B. The qualifying fees are $390 for city council positions and $690 for the mayoral position.
