EATONTON — You can easily get your fill of famous in this town.
Benjamin Hunt, who lived here a century ago, is the father of the dairy industry in Georgia and was a close friend of French scientist Dr. Louis Pasteur.
Truett Cathy, who was born here 92 years ago, has also made a few cows famous in those “Eat Mor Chikin” commercials. He is the much-admired founder of Chick-fil-A and one of the nation’s leading philanthropists.
Vince Hancock, who lives here, is a hometown hero who has won two Olympic gold medals in skeet shooting.
But Eatonton also aspires to be famous for something else.
“We would like to be known as the literary capital of Georgia,” said Jack Shinneman, an Indiana native who retired to the shores of nearby Lake Oconee.
