The Mt. Zion City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to begin work on a new city charter, which will hopefully be ready for submission next year to the state Legislature for approval.
“Our current city charter was put into effect about 1953,” said Mayor Randy Sims. “We have a lot of ambiguity in the city charter. I would like to bring it into the 21st century.”
On a motion by Councilman Andy Richie and a second by Councilman Bobby Mullenix, the council voted 5-0 to go ahead with work on the new charter.
