Mistake prompts address changes for Chatham County residents | savannahnow.com

Residents of two dozen homes in the Willow Point community were recently notified their addresses are incorrect and will have to be changed, leaving homeowners to figure out how to keep getting their mail at the correct address.

The Chatham County-Savannah Metropolitan Planning Commission, which assigns the addresses, sent letters late last week advising residents of their home’s new address and stating the change was effective immediately.

Gary Plumbley, MPC director of development services, said Tuesday he made a mistake and transposed a couple numbers, which led to the incorrect address being assigned to 24 homes. Willow Point is a relatively new subdivision within The Highlands community, located just off the Jimmy DeLoach Parkway near Pooler, and the affected homes are less than a year old, Plumbley said.

The road where the homes are located is currently an incomplete circle that will eventually be linked. Because there is not enough room in the incomplete portion, numbers in the addresses have to be adjusted up to make room for the planned homes, Plumbley said.
