Mike Huckabee: Dems view women as ‘helpless’ – POLITICO.com

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee on Thursday charged that Democrats are conflating women’s rights with access to birth control.

Democrats, the former presidential candidate said, believe women are “helpless” — that they “cannot control their libido or reproductive system without the help of the government.”

 

“Republicans no longer accept listening to Democrats talk about a ‘war on women,’” he said, speaking at the Republican National Committee’s winter meeting in Washington. “Republicans don’t have a war on women. [We] have a war for women — for them to be empowered to be something other than victims of their gender.”

 

Huckabee’s comments were part of his wide-ranging luncheon address to a ballroom full of RNC leaders from across the country.

 

The RNC has been pushing for the party to take a more inclusive approach in an effort to broaden the base to include more women, young people and minorities —demographics with which Democrats have often performed well in recent elections.
