Michelle Nunn campaigned for U.S. Senate in Macon on Thursday.

She said this was her first campaign stop as a Democratic Senate hopeful since she announced her candidacy earlier this week. She was born in Macon and lived in Perry as a child.

Nunn is the daughter of former Sen. Sam Nunn.

She ate at a downtown Macon lunch spot, Jeneane’s, met with local Democrats, shook hands with the lunch crowd, then gave interviews at Macon City Hall.

Speaking with 13WMAZ, Nunn said she’d like to serve on the Senate Armed Services Committee, which her father chaired.

And she said she’d like to end sequestration-ordered furloughs for civilian defense workers, including thousands at nearby Robins Air Force Base. She said there are other ways to cut.

Nunn said she would also like to be on the Senate Agriculture Committee.
