Metro Gainesville jobless rate down to 7.5 in July | GainesvilleTimes.com

The local jobs picture has brightened a bit over the summer.

The metro Gainesville’s unemployment rate decreased slightly to 7.5 percent in July, down one-tenth of a percentage point from 7.6 percent in June, the Georgia Department of Labor announced today.

The rate was 8.2 percent in July a year ago.

The rate declined because 322 more residents became employed, pushing the total number to 84,370, plus there was an increase in the number of jobs.

While the state lost jobs in July, Gainesville went against the trend and added 100, raising the total to 75,400 from 75,300 in June. Most of the growth came in trade and transportation.
