Madison County voters can now vote on SPLOST

Madison County residents now can cast a vote on a sales tax referendum.

The referendum on renewing the [one] per[c]ent tax for county improvements is set for Nov. 5.

Early voting started Monday and continues until Nov. 1. Votes can be cast at the Madison County Registrar’s Office.

County officials expect to bring in $12.39 million in sales taxes over six years if the tax is renewed.

At least $6.49 million is slated for road improvements. If renewed, the tax will also fund water and sewer improvements at the county and city levels, as well as equipment and vehicle upgrades for volunteer fire departments and the 911 call center. Other areas expecting improvements include the recreation department, transfer station and the old county courthouse.
