Macon-Bibb consolidation committee approves new organizational chart | Politics | Macon.com

Members of a Macon-Bibb County consolidation committee approved an organizational chart for the new government Monday.

In addition, the transition task force’s Human Resources Committee approved a 222-page personnel policy and procedures manual for employees of the new government.

Both the chart and manual have gone through several iterations over the past few months, but they are now in a position to be approved by the full task force.

Only minor changes were made to both documents during Monday’s meeting.

State Rep. Nikki Randall, D-Macon, told members of the committee she thought the proposed nepotism policy in the manual was “a bit overreaching,” since the proposed language wouldn’t allow any relative of anyone holding a position of authority in the new government to get a job with Macon-Bibb County. For example, a relative of a department head, such as the IT department, couldn’t get a job in the Public Works Department because of wording in the manual.

Macon Mayor Robert Reichert proposed changing the policy, limiting it to people in authority not having a relative working directly under them. The committee eventually changed the language, as well as adding a provision saying that relatives of the new government’s mayor, commissioners, county manager and assistant county manager couldn’t work for the new government, since those positions work with all departments.
