State Rep. Allen Peake, R-Macon, a staunch opponent of marijuana legalization, said Monday that he would be willing to consider a tight law to legalize medical marijuana — if a measure comes up.

“This is a big step for me,” said Bibb’s senior Republican representative. He’s started to get constituent emails from people who say the drug could help their children, friends or family members.

There is no bill yet speaking to the issue, but one state senator has proposed fact-finding hearings on the drug’s touted healing properties.
