League of Women Voters of Georgia Joins Civic Engagement Organizations For National Voter Registration Day at Capitol

On Tuesday the League of Women Voters of Georgia joined other civic organizations in a 50-state drive to register voters for the elections to be held in November. A rally at the Georgia State Capitol, on Washington Street, was held from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

“September 24th is National Voter Registration Day, and it’s important that citizens understand that all elections – even so-called off year elections – are extremely important,” said Elizabeth Poythress, President of the League of Women Voters of Georgia.

“Some 1500 political races and ballot initiatives will be decided in Georgia on election day this year,” she added. “Our goal, in addition to registering voters, is to raise public awareness that these races will have a profound impact on pocket book issues for all Georgians – the quality of education, access to healthcare, how we get to work, what jobs are available, and many more,” said Poythress.

The theme of this year’s Voter Registration Day is “Millions of People will vote this year. Will you?” The League of Women Voters and their partner organizations will coordinate thousands of registration drives and other events nationwide, encouraging voters to register, get informed, and participate in this year’s elections.
