Kingston brings Senate campaign to Macon | Politics | Macon.com

U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Savannah, came to Macon on Friday to announce here that he’s running for the U.S. Senate.

Kingston, 58, made his formal announcement Thursday in his hometown of Savannah. On Friday, he stood in the gazebo behind the Allman Brothers Band Museum at The Big House on Vineville Avenue, surrounded by family and joined by about 30 supporters.

“It would be easy for me to stay in the House,” said Kingston, who has represented the 1st Congressional District, centered on southeast Georgia, since 1993.

But the Democrat-controlled Senate is “dysfunctional,” and he blames it for blocking progress, he said.
