John Paulson running for reelection to Sandy Springs City Council

“I have enjoyed my first term, and believe there is still much to do, and that I can contribute to the many challenges coming to our city in the years ahead,” said Paulson.

During his first term Paulson was instrumental in the city rebidding for city services, having served on the committee that developed the Requests For Proposal. This effort ultimately saved Sandy Springs taxpayers more than $7 million dollars annually.

Another accomplishment during this period was the development of a downtown city center plan, which is just now being implemented. This plan formed the blueprint for our city center and set in motion the needed redevelopment of Sandy Springs’ core.

“The next four years we will continue to see challenges in this city center development effort. My experience in engineering and construction allows me a unique perspective in this arena, with its many implementation challenges,” continued Paulson.

“Sandy Springs is also recovering from the recent recession, and with that recovery comes new growth and development. These opportunities require a balance between the reasonable growth, while maintaining and improving the character of our community and protecting our existing neighborhoods.”

The Public Works activity continues today, as it has since the city was formed. There have been thousands of feet of sidewalks constructed, and miles of roadways repaved. This continues to account for a large percentage of the city total budget. The discipline and logical process engineers follow in their profession will continue to be useful in his participation in council’s decisions for the upcoming term.

Paulson was first elected to the Sandy Springs City Council in 2009. John is a former Marine Infantryman who served in Vietnam in 1969. John Paulson is a native Chicagoan who moved to Sandy Springs in 1986 with his wife Mary. He is Director of Business Development for Milliken & Company in their newly formed Building and Infrastructure business unit.
