John Linder endorses Jack Kingston for United State Senate

Architect of the Fair Tax Endorses Jack Kingston for U.S. Senate
Former Rep. John Linder says candidate is ‘serious about cutting spending’

Duluth, GA – Former Congressman and architect of the Fair Tax John Linder today announced his endorsement of Jack Kingston for United States Senate.

Linder cited Kingston’s budget-cutting record and support of the Fair Tax as reasons for backing his candidacy.

“I recruited Jack Kingston 30 years ago to run for the Georgia House,” said Linder.  “Eight years later we were both elected to Congress and Jack became our representative on the Appropriations Committee.  Jack took that responsibility seriously and, while Congress often just argues over cutting the rate of growth, Jack actually cut spending.”

On the House Appropriations Committee, Kingston has helped lead the charge to eliminate duplicative programs and reduce deficit spending.  He cut the Obama Administration’s budget by $3.6 billion in just two years when he led the Agriculture Subcommittee.

“When I introduced the Fair Tax in 1999, Jack was an early co-sponsor and is still working to pass the bill,” Linder continued.

Kingston has been an ardent supporter of the Fair Tax and has cosponsored it every year since it was introduced.  He continues to pressure House Republican leaders to bring the proposal up for a vote.

“When a tax reform proposal becomes a New York Times best seller, it clearly deserves some more attention in Washington,” said Kingston. “As Senator, I will lead the charge to implement the Fair Tax.”

From a personal perspective, Linder noted the friendship he and his wife built with the Kingstons after working with them so closely.

“Over the last 30 years Lynne and I became friends with Libby too,” said Linder.  “We know their kids and think the world of the Kingston family. That is reason enough for us to endorse Jack Kingston to be Georgia’s next Senator.  But I always come back to the spending.  Jack Kingston is serious about cutting spending and deserves your vote!”

Kingston thanked Linder for his support and pledged to sponsor the Fair Tax if elected Senator.

“John Linder is one of the most effective leaders our state has ever known,” said Kingston.  “I appreciate his support, his endorsement of my candidacy, and his service to our state.  As Senator, I will continue his legacy of fighting for our conservative Georgia values.”

Kingston is running in the Republican Primary to replace retiring Senator Saxby Chambliss.  While Election Day is May 20, early in person voting is being conducted all across Georgia.  For more information, visit www.JackKingston.org/vote.
