IntercontinentalExchange shareholders approve NYSE Euronext deal – Atlanta Business Chronicle

IntercontinentalExchange Inc. stockholders on Monday gave their nod of approval for the company’s $8.2 billion acquisition of NYSE Euronext.

ICE (NYSE: ICE) stockholders approved the deal with about 99.7 percent of the shares present at the special meeting voting in favor of the combination. That represented 85 percent of ICE’s outstanding common shares.

The Atlanta-based operator of regulated global exchanges, clearing houses and over-the-counter markets first announced the deal in December 2012. Completion of the combination is still subject to approval by relevant competition and other regulatory authorities in the United States and Europe, as well as customary closing conditions.

“The overwhelming approval by our shareholders confirms our belief that the combined company will be even better positioned to serve customers by combining our respective areas of expertise to create value for our customers and shareholders,” said ICE Chairman and CEO Jeffrey C. Sprecher, in a statement.
