Incumbent announces bid for council seat Warner Robins mayor seeks | Elections | Macon.com

WARNER ROBINS — Councilman Mike Daley announced via email Tuesday he will seek re-election for his Post 1, at large, seat.

“The ‘Mayor and Council’ as a unified team has worked hard over my tenure on council to keep our city in sound financial condition and to ensure that our hardworking employees have the tools necessary to provide the services required by our citizens,” Daley said.

Daley’s announcement means Mayor Chuck Shaheen likely will face off in November against one of his current council members. Shaheen announced last week he will relinquish his post and instead run for Daley’s seat.

Charlie Scott, a retired fireman, qualified for the race Monday. Neither Shaheen nor Daley have signed the official documents entering them into the race. They have until Friday to do so. Daley said he intends to qualify at noon Wednesday.

Daley noted in his announcement six projects that City Council has worked on throughout his term, including annexing land “to keep property taxes low,” purchasing property for a sports complex on Elberta and North Houston roads and donating land to the state for a veterans education and training center. He also references a water park for which he recently backed infrastructure.
