Humane Society wins $30K | savannahnow.com

The Humane Society for Greater Savannah won $30,000 in grant money in the 2013 ASPCA Rachael Ray $100K Challenge, contest officials announced Tuesday.

Finishing in second place in its size division, the nonprofit shelter found homes for 790 pets during the three-month competition — an increase of 320 lives saved over the same three months last year. The shelter was also named “Most Improved Player” for Division Two for increasing lives saved by 68 percent over the same period in the prior year.

“Almost 800 cats and dogs were given a second chance at a loving home thanks to their tremendous efforts over those three months,” said Bert Troughton, vice president of community outreach for the ASPCA.
