Health care choices for state employees about to shrink | Political Insider | www.ajc.com

Thousands of state employees are about to be given a surprise – a new, single private insurer for their health care needs.

Currently, employees have a choice of two providers: Cigna or United Healthcare. According to the PowerPoint slide above, part of a presentation to a recent meeting of the Georgia Society of Managed Care, that’s about to change.

We understand all coverage will shift to a sole, third company, Blue Cross/Blue Shield. Expect the announcement to come any day. Bids were submitted in March. The new program would go into effect, we’re told, in January 2014.
