As leaders in Washington focused last week on the September terrorist attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya, one local congressman played a key role in congressional hearings.

U.S. Rep. Rob Woodall, R-Lawrenceville, was able to participate in the questioning during the hearing on the Benghazi attack, which left a U.S. ambassador and others dead.

Woodall, who is a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, asked questions to lay the background on the decision-making involving security at embassy.

“I’d like to thank the three witnesses from the State Department for appearing before the committee,” Woodall said Wednesday. “I admire their candor and willingness to help us understand exactly what happened on that fateful day last September. I hope that today’s hearing gives Congress and the rest of America a lot more insight into the events leading up to September 11, 2012, as well as the decisions subsequently made by the U.S. government.”
