ATLANTA — A local state representative resigned this week, announcing he is moving to Maine for a job opportunity.

Rep. Brian Thomas, D-Lilburn, was named the National Director of Cultural Resources Services for Natural Resource Group in Lamoine, Maine. The archaeologist said the opportunity to start up a national program was too good to pass up.

“It was a real honor to have the chance to serve” in the General Assembly, Thomas said. “I’m glad that I had the chance to contribute in the areas that I care about.”

Thomas was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2004 and served as the House Minority Caucus chair in 2011 and 2012.

House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams of Atlanta called Thomas an “environmental leader, an education advocate and a leader within the Democratic Party.”
