Gwinnett Daily Post | GOOD NEWS: 27 Gwinnett schools honored by Gov. Deal

winnett’s schools were well represented on a list of 107 schools across the state honored last week by Gov. Nathan Deal for an initiative to combat childhood obesity.

#Twenty seven local schools were listed in groups of gold, silver and bronze for the program called Georgia SHAPE, which began last year when Deal called on teachers, schools and students in the fight against childhood obesity. The honor roll program challenges schools to make improvements based on three main criteria: physical activity, nutrition and wellness. These schools met benchmark measurements in all three categories, which earned them a medal.

#“I would like to thank the families, faculty and staff for their continued commitment to promoting an active lifestyle among students,” Deal said in a press release. “We are seeing signs of improvement as the SHAPE program continues to grow, but there is still much work to be done.”
