WASHINGTON — Conservative Republican U.S. senators Mike Lee, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and others kicked up a storm last week by threatening to vote “no” on any government spending bill that includes a dime for Obamacare.
The effort has been pushed by outside groups such as FreedomWorks and denounced by some Republicans, including Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., who called it “hype.” The social media hype has brought it into Georgia’s Senate campaign, offering another opportunity for the Republican candidates to express their admiration for Cruz and slide to the right of incumbent senators Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson — neither of whom signed onto the letter.
Karen Handel announced on Facebook: “I support Senator Cruz and Senator Lee in their efforts to #DefundObamacare! Share if you agree!”
