Green Power EMC, which supplies energy for 28 Georgia electric membership corporations, will buy all the electricity produced by a solar project to be built near Hazlehurst in southeast Georgia.

The new solar generating plant will cover 135 acres with solar panels and will generate 43,000 megawatts of electricity annually, which could power about 3,000 homes.

“The project moves us further down the road to becoming a much more sustainable state,” said Jeff Pratt, president of Green Power.

The company will buy all the power the new plant will generate for 25 years, which will be owned and operated by Silicon Ranch, which also runs another solar plant in Social Circle, Ga.
