TOCCOA — The Georgia Environmental Protection Division has ordered the Wilbros facility in Toccoa to shut down.
The state agency said this week that it will revoke the environmental permits for Wilbros and has ordered the facility on Rose Lane to close. Wilbros has 30 days to appeal the order.
Wilbros has been at the center of controversy for years in relation to complaints about excessive odors coming from its facility.
The plant, which is in a rural area, makes biofuels and recycles organic material. Wilbros uses chicken waste material in its composting process.
