Gene Sperling, the architect of some of President Barack Obama’s small business initiatives, will leave the administration Jan. 1.
Jeff Zients, a former acting director of the Office of Management and Budget, will replace Sperling as director of the National Economic Council, which coordinates economic policy for the president. Zients spent most of his career as a management consultant, and is a former chairman and CEO of the Advisory Board Co and former chairman of the Corporate Executive Board.
