Jason Carter: Fact Check
Question: Why did liberal Democrat Jason Carter vote for three of Governor Nathan Deal’s budgets but voted against this year’s budget that added half a billion dollars in education funding?
Carter Said:
“Here’s the way the budgeting process works in Atlanta. And this is why I believe it is broken. The budget passes unanimously every year, so the idea that all of the sudden it’s strange that I voted for the budgets is, the folks who know, know that that’s a hollow attack.” PTA Advocacy Day, October 2, 2014
He also said:
“You gotta have a budget. But I led that task force on education, and I went out there and sat with teachers and educators in rural Georgia, and saw the impact of the cuts. And after you’ve done that, after you’ve talked to people I could not justify voting for that budget ever again.” AJC, September 16, 2014
But let’s look at the facts:
“The budget passes unanimously every year.”
Fact Check: False. During Carter’s tenure, the budget did not pass out of the Senate “unanimously” in 2011 and 2014.
*FY2012 Budget(HB78), final Senate vote on 4/12/11: Carter- YES; 48-6
*FY2015 Budget(HB744), final Senate vote on 3/18/14: Carter- NO; 51-5
“And after you’ve done that, after you’ve talked to people I could not justify voting for that budget ever again.”
Fact Check: False. After the Education Task Force ended their state-wide tour, Carter voted for the amended version of Deal’s 2014 FY budget.

So why is Jason Carter lying to Georgia voters and the news media about his votes? One word: politics.
