Outdoor activities like hunting and fishing are a way of life when growing up in Georgia. My sons and I love the outdoors, appreciate the need for conservation and love to fish and hunt. The excitement of the outdoors and the camaraderie we build on those early mornings and long days are worth every sore muscle they create.

I love taking my boys out to fish and hunt and on the days that we are empty handed, we simply enjoy the beauty of nature that God provided for us. Unfortunately, this cherished pastime is under assault from the radical left and their like-minded allies in the White House.

Under President Obama, a staunch gun control activist, the government has developed an unquenchable desire to inhibit our constitutional rights and freedoms. Some reform efforts may seem small and innocuous while others are larger and more extreme. However, regardless of the size or scope, these so-called reforms serve as an open door for our Second Amendment Rights to be diminished in a way that the Founding Fathers never intended.

At one time in history, the United States Constitution was revered, obeyed, and treated with respect. Now, liberal activists don’t view the Constitution as the “Law of the Land,” but see if as merely a list of suggestions that we should change or ignore. In regards to our Second Amendment Right to keep and bear arms, gun control activists are attempting to insert caveats and stipulations, regulations and restrictions as they attack and undermine the foundation of America.

For many candidates and lawmakers, support for the Second Amendment is just a political stance to appeal to voters. For me, it’s much deeper than that.

As an avid outdoorsmen and life member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), I believe that the Second Amendment was included in our Constitution to provide individuals with the means to protect themselves from a tyrannical and oppressive government. Our Founders knew that the right to bear arms was the only thing that enabled them to overcome British tyranny during the American Revolution. It also provides individuals the means to defend themselves and their country from harm. The Second Amendment is vital to the defense of our God-given, unalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

In Congress, I’ll be an outspoken and passionate supporter of the Constitution and under no circumstances will I compromise our Second Amendment Rights or cave to the gun control mob. When the Founding Fathers penned that our gun rights “shall not be infringed,” that was meant to be the law of the land, not a suggestion. In Washington, I will work tirelessly to make sure the President, his Administration, and my colleagues in the House and Senate know the difference.
